Outgoing Principal Recognized

Mr Phua Huat Chuan, outgoing Principal of Broadrick Secondary School was conferred with a 2nd dan honorary black belt by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) on 19 October 2010 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of taekwondo in the school.

Mr Phua had, among other contributions, initiated the setting up of the school’s taekwondo CCA; procured funding for the purchase of training equipment; and encouraged students to take up the sport as their CCA. Most importantly, Mr Phua promoted the sport through the school’s PE programme which meant that all students would be given a chance to experience the sport.

STF 2nd Vice-President, Mr RA Jeyaraman, presented the certificate, uniform and belt to Mr Phua at the school’s event on 22 October 2010 at Wavehouse on Sentosa Island.

The STF wishes Mr Phua the best in his new appointment as the Principal of Regent Secondary School – the school which hosted the Inter-School Taekwondo Championships in 2009 when taekwondo was included as a trial sport for the school sports calendar.
