20 players represented the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) at the 2019 Asian Cities Taekwondo Championships which was held on 23 & 24 March 2019 in Hong Kong.
The STF fielded a young team comprising 13 cadet & junior and 7 senior players.
The poomsae team collected 5 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals. Their kyorugi teammates added another 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals to the total tally.
Competing for the first time in an international arena, our female cadet team, Germaine Loi, Nicole Ng and Ezann Yeo missed a podium finish when they finished 5th in their division, missing the bronze by 0.03 point.
Chelsea Sim won a gold in the individual event and another with her teammates, Diyanah Aqidah and Nicole Khaw in the team event. Brandon Low also won a gold in the individual event and another gold together with Valerie Kang in the Pair. Woon Yong Chuang did not let the team down by clinching the gold medal in his division.
Raja Arshad showed that hard work does pay off when he clinched a gold medal, beating his opponent from Hong Kong in the final. The other gold medal came from Keston Pang.
Our other medal winners are, silver – Nichelle Tan and Nicholas Khaw, bronze – Jolene Lua, Isabel Rivas, Mohammad Irfan, Yap Teng Chung, Valerie Kang, Germaine Loi and Nicholas Khaw & Germaine Loi (Pair).
The team also returned with the following trophies.
- Poomsae Cadet Team – 2nd runner-up
- Poomsae Female Team (Overall) – 1st runner-up
- Kyorugi Senior Male Team (Overall) – 3rd runner-up
- Kyorugi Junior Team – Outstanding Performance
JH Kim-Induk, led by Mr Lai Han Seng, also fielded a token team for the competition. Their team won 2 bronze medals in the poomsae events.
