Opportunties for Juniors & Cadets to Compete at International Competitions

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation intends to field Junior & Cadet kyorugi and poomsae players for the following competitions and will be conducting open selection trials for the tournaments and invites all affiliates to participate in both kyorugi and poomsae events.

  • Asean Taekwondo Championships
    23 to 25 March 2017, Perlis, Malaysia
    Kyorugi – Junior & Cadet
    Poomsae – Junior only
  • Asian Junior & Cadet Championships
    30 May 2017 to 4 June 2017, HCM City, Vietnam
    Kyorugi & Poomsae – Junior & Cadet
  • Chuncheon Korea Open Taekwondo Championships
    2 to 7 July 2017, Chuncheon City, Korea
    Kyorugi & Poomsae – Junior & Cadet

The selection details are as follows.

Time                 :           Kyorugi

                                    Weigh-in           –           11.00am
                                    Trial                  –           1.30pm

                                                              (Head kick will be allowed during the trials)

                                    Poomsae

                                    Trial                  –           1.00pm
                                    *Poomsae         –           Taegeuk 4 to Taeback (Junior)

                                                                         Taegeuk 4 to Keumgang (Cadet)
                                                                         (*3 poomsae will be selected at random)

All participants must be SINGAPORE CITIZENS and are STF poom or black belt holders.

Please fill in the attached forms and submit them to the Secretariat by Wednesday 8 February 2017.  There is no limit to the number of players each affiliate can field. We reserve the right not to accept late submission, incomplete forms or registration without the necessary supporting documents.

Registered Kyorugi players for the trials are to report at the STF National Training Centre by 11.00am for weigh-in. Poomsae players are to report by 12.00pm.

Kyorugi players shall be considered for the category based on their actual weight on the day of the weigh-in and not according to the weight submitted in the form as we do not want to disqualify any players. No weight allowance will be given.

Selected players will be required to fulfil the training requirements averaging 12 hours per week once the results of the selection are announced.  They will also be required to apply for the WTF Global Athlete Licence and Kukkiwon certificate.

The panel of selectors will comprise any of the following senior technical members.

–       Mr Steven Soh
–       Mr RA Jeyaraman
–       Mr Lee Thiam Poh
–       Mr Tan Cheng Hui
–       Mr Tan Kok Heng

The player’s undertaking form is also attached. The form must be signed by parents for all players.  Players will not be allowed to participate in the trials if they do not comply with the administrative requirements.

The trials would be open for observation by participants and the registered accompanying coaches only.
