Taekwondo Coaching (Level 1) Course

0

A Taekwondo Coaching (Level 1) Course will be conducted on 24 & 25 June 2006 and 1 & 2 July 2006 at the NTC.

This course is organized to meet the requests of our members who want to attend the technical component first.  Therefore, it is open to all blackbelt holders including those who have not completed the NCAP (Level 1) Theory.

We would like to point out that it is an advantage for aspiring coaches to attend the theory component first.  More information is provided in the attached document.

The course information and registration form may be downloaded from this website.

Acme Is Still Number One

ACME Taekwondo proved that its earlier victory in the SPEX Taekwondo Championships held in December 2005 was no flash in the pan.  It again clinched the overall title in the SPEX ‘Best of the Best’ Championships staged on 19 March 2006 at Mountbatten Community Club

Collecting 22 gold, 14 silver and 1 bronze medals, ACME confirmed its strength in the Junior Division.  Aljunied C C, another club with a strong following of juniors, finished second with 8 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Said Mr Chow Pak Hong, who is the chairman of the SPEX programme and  organizing chairman of the event: “The standard of the junior players is getting better with each tournament.  I am delighted to see the progress.

“I believe that some of them will make it into the development squad and eventually, the national squad.”

The guest of honour for the event was Mr Andy Gan Lai Chiang, MP for Marine Parade GRC and Adviser to Marine Parade Grassroots Organsations.

UNIFORM

0

It has been brought to our attention that some instructors and their students do not wear their ‘dobok’ (taekwondo uniform) during class proper.

As such practice is not acceptable and attracts adverse comments from activity administrators and the public, we would like to advise all instructors to be in their uniform when they are conducting classes.

They are also to ensure that their students are appropriately attired. Instructors and students should be proud to wear their uniform which portrays the image and spirit of the art and sport of taekwondo.

A Good Outing

0

Eighteen teams from six countries converged in Hong Kong for the 10th Asian Cities Gold Cup Taekwondo Championships.  The standards of the competition were elevated with the participation of top countries in the sport including Chinese Taipei and China.

Our team comprising 8 male and 5 female players acquitted themselves well despite the rigorous competition.  Their determination and guts saw them clinch two team awards – 4th runner-up (Female) and Best Fighting Spirit (Male).

On top of the team recognition, the players returned with 1 gold (Jason Ong), 2 silver (Lanetar Quek and Dawn Ang) and 2 bronze (Ong Tian Ling and Nur Zulaikha) medals.

Asked to provide some highlights of our team’s performance, Ng Lee Noi, the team manager, said: “Jason Ong was without doubt, the most outstanding player of the team.  He grew better and stronger with each bout.  He made his way to the final by eliminating players from China and Malaysia.  His final bout against Hong Kong was nothing short of brilliant.  He controlled the fight right from the beginning and eventually wrapped it up 9-3.

“Chuan Kai’s performance was also interesting.  He had no problem overcoming his opponent from China in the first match winning 7-4.  In the next match, it was a closely contested affair with both players going for the kill.  The match ended with 6 points each.  It was a nail-biting sudden death round with the home crowd cheering for his Hong Kong opponent.  Chuan Kai landed a perfectly timed counter kick but the point was awarded to the Hong Kong player instead.  Chuan Kai was obviously robbed.  As it was part and parcel of the game, we accepted the decision with grace.”
All in all, it was a good outing for us.
