Final Selection Trials for 2017 Malaysia SEA Games

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation will be conducting open selection trials for the 2017 Malaysia SEA Games which will be held in August 2017 in Kuala Lumpur.

All affiliates are invited to participate in the open trials for both Kyorugi and Poomsae events.

The selection details are as follows.

                                                                    *Poomsae  –  Taegeuk 6 to Sipjin (*3 poomsae will be selected at random)

                                    Trial                –          1.30pm                     

All participants must be SINGAPORE CITIZENS (born in 1999 or earlier) and are STF black belt holders.  The WTF Athlete Licence and Kukkiwon certification are mandatory for selected players.

Please fill in the attached forms and submit them to the Secretariat by Thursday 9 February 2017.  There is no limit to the number of players each affiliate can field.  We reserve the right not to accept late submission, incomplete forms or registration without the necessary supporting documents.

Registered players for the trials are to report at the STF National Training Centre by 11.00am.  Kyorugi players shall be considered for the category based on their actual weight on the day of the weigh-in and not according to the weight submitted in the form as we do not want to disqualify any players.  No weight allowance will be given.

Selected players will be required to fulfill the training requirements averaging 12 hours per week.

The panel of selectors may comprise any 3 of the following senior technical members.

–       Mr Steven Soh

–       Mr RA Jeyaraman

–       Mr Lee Thiam Poh

–       Mr Tan Kok Heng

–       Mr Tan Cheng Hui

Selected players will be nominated to the Singapore National Olympic Council for the 2017 SEA Games.  They will also get opportunities to compete in international tournaments leading to the Games.

The player’s undertaking form is also attached.  The form must be signed by parents for players/performers under the age of 21 years old.  Players will not be allowed to participate in the trials if they do not comply with the administrative requirements.

The trials would be open for observation by participants and the registered accompanying coaches only.   Please note that no photography and video recording will be allowed.

Weekday NCAP (Level 1) Technical Course at JH Kim (Bukit Timah)

The STF will be conducting another NCAP (Level 1) Technical Course to be held at J H Kim (Bukit Timah) on the following days from 7.00pm to 10.00pm.

–  Wednesday 15 February 2017

–  Friday 17 February 2017

–  Monday 20 February 2017

–  Wednesday 22 February 2017

–  Friday 24 February 2017

This course is specially organized to cater to coaches who are unable to attend weekend courses.

REVISIONS TO THE ANTI-DOPING SINGAPORE (ADS) THERAPEUTIC USE EXEMPTION (TUE) POLICY

The ADS TUE Policy has been revised to include changes to the 2017 Prohibited List. The key revisions to the ADS TUE Policy is to Section 4 (Procedure for Asthma Treated with Beta-2 Agonists) on the refinements and guidelines for the thresholds of permitted Beta-2 Agonists for treatment of asthma.

A copy of the revised ADS TUE policy with effect from 1 January 2017 is attached for your information. You may also download a copy of the TUE Policy from the ADS website at www.antidoping.org.sg.

The 2017 Prohibited List has taken effect on 1 January 2017.  Athletes and officials can check the status of their medication prescribed or bought over-the-counter at pharmacies in Singapore by using the online database “CheckDrugs” which is accessible from Anti-Doping Singapore’s (ADS) website at www.antidoping.org.sg.

NCAP (Level 2) Technical Course (February/March 2017)

The NCAP (Level 2) Technical Course will be held on 18 & 19 February 2017 and 4 & 5 March 2017 at the STF National Training Centre.

We would like to remind all coaches that the NCAP (Level 2) Technical will be a requirement with effect from April 2017 for all local coaches who wish to coach at STF-organized or sanctioned kyorugi tournaments.  Announcement of the requirement was made at the 2014 Coach Seminar.

We encourage coaches to upgrade themselves for the benefits of their students.

If you have not achieved your Level 2 qualification, this will be your chance to do so before the requirement takes effect.

Coach Seminar Registration Opens

Registration for the coach seminar which will be held on Sunday 19 March 2017 from 9.00am to 1.00pm is now open. The venue will be announced at a later date. The seminar is a mandatory requirement for coaches who wish to renew the passes.

The tentative program for the seminar, which is a mandatory requirement for coaches who wish to renew their passes, is as follows:

–  Opening Address

–  Talk on ‘From a taekwondo practitioner to a taekwondo coach – a total development’ Dr Ho Mun Wai

–  Talk on ‘How to talk so that children can learn more effectively in a taekwondo environment’ by Mr Lai Han Seng

–  Talk on ‘Facilitating trainees’ development in a multi-cultural society’ by Mr Tan Yong Chen

–  Talk on ‘A guide to safe taekwondo’ by Ms Delphine Fong

–  Talk on ‘Instructional Strategies for Sports Coaching for Advanced Techniques’ by Mr David Yeo

The dress code for the seminar is ‘Dobok’.  Please ensure that the ‘dobok’ is STF-approved.

All participants will receive a certificate of achievement.

The fee is $100 (inclusive of the coach pass renewal for 3 years). Club leaders and black belts may also attend the event for general knowledge. The fee is $60.

A late payment fee of $50 will be imposed after the closing date.

Please bring along 2 passport-sized photos if you wish to apply for the new coach pass.  The coach pass application form will be available at the end of seminar.

2017 Nestle Koko Krunch Junior Taekwondo Championships

The 12th series of the Nestle Koko Krunch Junior Taekwondo Championships would be held on 25 & 26 February 2017 at Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

The information sheet is attached.  Club officials and coaches are advised to read them carefully before submission.

Singapore Olympic Foundation – Peter Lim Scholarship 2017

The Singapore Olympic Foundation (SOF) is inviting aspiring athletes to apply for the Singapore Olympic Foundation – Peter Lim Scholarship from 3rd to 31st January 2017 via the SingaporeOlympicFoundation website,www.sof.sg

The Scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to outstanding young athletes from financially-challenged backgrounds to facilitate their pursuits in sports excellence. The Scholarship also supports deserving under-18 High Performance athletes who are on a high performance pathway, and are  training with the national youth or national teams.  Recipients of the Sport Singapore SPEX Scholarship will not be eligible to apply.

There are four categories which award varying cash amounts: Primary ($1,000), Secondary ($2,000), Junior College/Integrated Programme/Tertiary ($3,000) and under-18 High Performance ($5,000).


The tenure of scholarship is one year, and is applicable for renewal annually (via a new submission). Eligibility criteria and application details are available at the SOF website – www.sof.sg. Closing date for submission is 31st January 2017 at 4pm

We would appreciate it if you could kindly collate the submission of any of your athletes who are submitting the forms through the NSAs instead of their schools.  Applicants who are applying for the High Performance U18 Category required a Letter of Support from the NSA(High Performance U18 applicant ONLY) attached with their application.  Once the application form is endorsed, please return to the following address before the closing date 31st January 2017.   Applications received after the closing date will not be considered.

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation will be organizing a Sparring Course (Fundamental) on Sunday 22 January 2017 from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.  Candidates going for their 1st poom or dan will be exempted from sparring if they have the fundamental certification.
