New Guidelines for Poomsae Referee Refresher Participants

Participants in the Poomsae Referee Refresher Seminar held on 12 June 2015 at the National Training Centre will be required to officiate at least 20 hours, within a year, in any tournaments organized or sanctioned by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) to qualify for the participation certificate.

With the certificate, the participants can attend the next Poomsae Referee Refresher Seminar without having to pay for the participation fee. 

What’s more, the 4 hours clocked by the participants in the 12 June Seminar will be recognized as part of their refereeing experience for promotion.

The list of participants is attached.  

Poomsae referees who did not attend the Refresher Seminar will not eligible to officiate in any poomsae tournaments, including the National Poomsae Championships which will be held on 25 & 26 July 2015, until the next seminar.

Results of Poomase Coaching Upgrading Courses

Two Poomsae Coach Upgrading Courses were conducted on Saturday 11 July 2015 at Temasek Polytechnic and Wednesday 15 July 2015 at J H Kim TKD (Bukit Timah).  A total of 126 participants attended the courses.

The results are attached.

A retest would be held on Friday 31 July 2015 at 7.30pm at the STF National Training Centre for those who had failed or received a provisional pass.  Unsuccessful participants are advised practise their poomsae to prepare for the retest.


Those who are interested in the retest must call the STF at 6345 1491 by 5.00pm on Tuesday 28 July 2015 to register. Payment can be made at the venue before the retest. The fee is $20 for those who failed the practical test. On the spot registration for those who have not registered is $30.

Kyorugi Referee Course (August 2015)

The next National Kyorugi Referee Course will be held on 15, 16 and 29 August 2015 at the STF National Training Centre

Blackbelt players are also encouraged to attend the course as it will help them in the understanding of the rules.  The knowledge will stand them in good stead in their preparation for competitions and in the competitions.

All clubs are reminded to have sufficient referees to support their plan to participate in the coming national kyorugi tournament.  All participating teams must be represented by a referee each.

Poomsae Referee Course Retest Results

Successful participants will be eligible to officate in the coming National Poomsae Championships.

2015 National Poomsae Programme & Competitors’ List

The programme and list of competitors for the 9th National Poomsae Taekwondo Championships which will be held on Saturday 25 July 2015 and Sunday 26 July 2015 are attached.

Poom/black belt competitors for Division E and above (from 15 years old) are expected to perform the following poomsae as stated in the information sheet.

–  Preliminary (Koryo)

–  Semi-Final (Keumgang)

–  Final (Taeback)

All participating clubs are reminded that they are required to provide one poomsae referee each. Performers from clubs without referees for the competition will not be allowed to compete.

Referees are to report to Mr Andy Lee (Tournament Chairman) one hour before the commencement of the tournament on both competition days.

All volunteers are to report to the Tournament Chairman on Saturday 25 July 2015 at Toa Payoh Sports Hall at 9.00am to assist in the set up.

Those who are unsuccessful must call the Secretariat at 6345 1491 to arrange for a retest.  Otherwise, they will not be eligible to attend the Poomsae Referee Course.

An Awesome Performance

Members of the national squad, including our SEA Games medallists, were invited to perform at the 28th SEA Games Appreciation Night on Tuesday 14 July 2015 at Swissotel Stamford Ballroom.

Despite the short notice from the organizer, the squad gave an awesome performance which wowed the audience.

STF President Mr Milan Kwee received the token of appreciation from Ministers Tan Chuan-Jin and Lawrence Wong on behalf of the STF.

Programme & Blank Fixtures for 2015 SYOF

The draws for the 2015 SYOF Taekwondo Championships will be held on Sunday 19 July 2015 at 4.30pm at the STF National Training Centre.

Participating affiliates are advised to send at least one representative for the session.

2015 National Taekwondo Kyorugi Championships

The 42nd National Taekwondo Kyorugi Championships will be on 5 & 6 September 2015 (Saturday and Sunday) and 12 & 13 September 2015 (Saturday and Sunday) at Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

Documents pertaining to the competition are attached.

For this year’s competition, please note the following information.

·         The organizers will not accept incomplete submission. Submission after the closing date – that is, 12 August 2015 (Wednesday) after 1600 hours – will be rejected.


·         Every participating team must provide at one referee for the duration of the championships to qualify for participation. The referee may not be the same person. For example, it is acceptable for a club to submit four referees, one each for every competition day. A club will be barred from future participation if its referee fails to fulfill his or her obligations without the approval of the Tournament Chairman.


·         Each affiliate is allowed to field in only one player per weight category per division.


·         The eligibility grade for the national championships shall be based on April 2015 grading or the player’s last grading before April 2015 if he or she did not take his or her grading in that month.


·         New rules without video replay shall be adopted. This means, among other things, that points will be awarded on a graduated system.


·         Weigh-in shall be conducted on the competition day . During Weigh-in contestant shall wear T-shirt & short. However , weigh-in may be conducted in the nude if the contest wishes to do so (Inside room). There will be only one weigh-in. Players who are over weight or under weight shall be disqualified. A weigh-in machine similar to the one used for the official weigh-in shall be provided for the players to check their weight before they are officially weighed. No weight allowance will be given.


·         Male and female players are required to wear the following equipment on entering the arena: head gear, trunk protector, forearm guard, shin guard groin guard, gloves and mouth piece.

Reminders for Poomsae Referees

The Poomsae Referee Refresher Seminar will be held on Sunday 12 July 2015 at 2.00pm at the STF NATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE and not at the Temasek Polytechnic.

As a large number of referees has registered for the seminar, registration will commence at 1.00pm. The seminar will start at 2.00pm SHARP.

Poomsae referees are reminded that if they do not attend this seminar, they will not be allowed to officiate in any poomsae tournaments until the next refresher seminar.
