At the recent 16th National Poomsae Ambassador Championship 2023, a transformative moment unfolded as two aspiring athletes took their inaugural steps onto the competitive stage. This annual event, which has long held a special place in the hearts of the participants and spectators alike, witnessed a new chapter in its storied history. The resonance of this occasion was palpable, touching
the lives of athletes, parents, friends, and the community at large, in ways that exceeded all expectations.

The prevailing aura of excitement and camaraderie that enveloped the event was a testament to the transcendent power of sport to unite and inspire. Athletes, embodying dedication and passion, poured their heart and soul into their performances, as parents and friends rallied behind them as unwavering pillars of support. The collective energy of the crowd echoed a resounding affirmation of the unyielding spirit of competition. These heartening scenes of enthusiasm and unity left an indelible mark on the memory of all those who were present to witness them.

The significance of this milestone extended beyond the immediate joy of the event itself. The courageous and triumphant participation of these two debutants has left an enduring legacy that has ignited conversations and sparked newfound interest. Observers and well-wishers have been left contemplating the potential inclusion of Para Taekwondo in future local taekwondo competitions,
underscoring the transformative impact these athletes have made.

Amidst this exciting backdrop, let us not overlook the exceptional achievements of Betrand Koh Jing Xuan and Nur Annisa Binti Mohamd Jaafar, who are both Yellow 7, and representatives of the esteemed Lighthouse School. They have not only etched their names into the annals of our STF’s history but also elevated the prestige of their institution. Their accomplishments transcends beyond the realm of sports; casting them as beacons of inspiration and embodiments of excellence. Their journey radiates a bright light that resonates far beyond the confines of the competition, illuminating the path for others to follow.

In extending gratitude to those who made this journey possible, special mention must be given to Ms Ami, Principal of Lighthouse school, Mr Kumaran Arumugam, Teacher of Physical Education Department, Ms Eve and Mr Rosman, Teacher ICs of Taekwondo CCA. Their unwavering support and dedication in preparing both students for the tournament have played an instrumental role in this remarkable achievement.

The 16th National Poomsae Ambassador Championship 2023 stands as a testament to the fact that it was more than a mere contest of skills and athleticism; it was a celebration of dedication, perseverance, and the unbreakable bonds that tie us together as a community.

Mr Kumaran Arumugam also shared his views: ‘I would like to firstly thank the Singapore Taekwondo Federation for organizing and creating opportunities for para athletes to compete on the same platform as the other athletes. I strongly believe that more para athletes will come forward to participate in such events and more organizers will work together as a community in making sports inclusive for all. ‘

As we reflect on this landmark event, let us carry forward the invaluable lessons learned and the memories forged. The journey of these two trailblazing athletes serves as a vivid reminder of the possibilities that lie ahead, and it is with great anticipation that we await the exciting prospects that await the world of Para Taekwondo.
