RP is pleased to inform that leveraging on the above success, they have set up a sports class for DSLM to be delivered within the Republic Polytechnic itself. This will allow national and developmental athletes who are not from the Singapore Sports School to also benefit from the programme. The unique feature of this sports class is that the schedule of lessons will be conducive for athletes to train and compete in sports, while at the same time, pursue a diploma that is recognised by the industry and for further studies.

They are organising an information and dialogue session on Saturday, 10 January 2015, 11am. This is specially catered for high performance team staff and officials of the NSAs, as well as elite student-athletes and their parents. This initiative aims to alleviate the anxiety of parents committing their children to the rigorous demand of sports training, especially at the competitive level.

The 2nd Daedo Taekwondo Championships 2014 was successfully staged on the 29th and 30th November 2014 at Temasek Polytechnic. The event attracted over 450 participants, which was three-fold that of the inaugural edition. Besides the individual and team events for the Kyorugi (Daedo-PSS) event, this year’s edition also included individual and team events for Poomsae as well. Overseas teams from Malaysia, Philippines and Taiwan also participated in the tournament and brought the level of competition a couple notches up.

This championships, an STF Youth Development Project, was jointly organized by J H Kim Taekwondo Institute (Bukit Timah). It provided the participants in the Kyorugi event.  Some of the boys were also matched up in the Kyorugi team events, which increased the excitement in the hall as every team rooted for their participants.

In Kyorugi and Poomsae events alike, local participants were able to compete against participants from overseas. It was especially enriching for Kyorugi participants to experience different sparring styles.

This event was only made possible with the support of our sponsors and partners. These included K&G Marketing, Public Utilities Board, Temasek Polytechnic, Nestle Singapore, Mondeux, UE Park Avenue International and Sushi Burrito.

The organizing committee, under the leadership of Mr Lai Han Seng (Chairman of STF Youth Committee), was appreciative of the contributions of all officials, referees, volunteers and all for making the event a resounding success. Their hard work had certainly resulted in a well-run championships, which also received positive feedbacks.  Some of which were as follows.

“Our players have enjoyed the game especially the Kyorugi Team event that had brought the crowd to the next level of excitement. We recognized the committee’s hard work and we appreciated the great effort.”

“Thanks for inviting us in your organized tournament. Everything went well and we had a wonderful experience.  We look forward for your next event.”

The results of the competition are attached.
