Suspension for Breaching the Uniform Code

0

Mr Tan Kok Seng was suspended from participating in all activities organized, sanctioned or supported by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) for three months with effect from 21 May 2014. His suspension was the result of him wearing a taekwondo uniform which did not comply with the STF uniform code. The offense was committed at his club and posted on his Facebook.

The suspension also means that Mr Tan’s appointment as an examiner has been discontinued. His reinstatement in the position will be subject to the approval of the Management.

The announcement was delayed because of an appeal by Mr Tan to postpone his suspension. His appeal had been turned down by the Management.

Two MOUs Signed in One Day

0

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) signed two memoranda of understanding (MOU) on Sunday 22 June 2014.

Mr Milan Kwee, STF President, endorsed the first MOU with Taekwondo Chung Do Kwan Association (TCDKA) at 10 am at STF Secretariat. The other signatory to the agreement was Mr Um Voon Kyu, President of the Association. As Mr Um was not able to make the trip to Singapore because of an important medical appointment, he was represented by Mr Kim Yong Ho.

The sealing of the MOU means that the STF is the official representative of Chung Do Kwan. Any members not affiliated with the STF will not be allowed, among other things, to claim that they are members of Chung Do Kwan or wear the Chung Do Kwan logo on their uniforms.

The MOU was the result of TCDKA plan to internationalize the organization. And for Singapore, it has chosen the STF as an apt representative.

The second MOU was signed by Mr Kwee an hour later with the World Taekwondo Taedoo Union (WTTU) headed by Mr Kang Shin-chul who had personally produced numerous World Champions. Mr Kang was at the STF office to seal the deal.

WTTU promote the development of taekwondo through its educational and training programme. Members of STF may train at Namchang Dojang in Suwon, Korea at a special discounted fee.

For more information on the MOUs, members may email the STF at stkdf@mail.com.

Grading Matters & Examiner Promotion

0

Among other things, all examiners have been informed of the following. It will be helpful if coaches take note of the information.

–       All grading participants, including the commander, must observe STF uniform code.

–       The maximum number of participants to be graded for the different grades is as follows: Grades 10 and 9 (8 candidates); Grades 8 to 5 (6 candidates); and Grades 4 to 1 (4 candidates). If time permits, it will be good to grade fewer candidates at a time.

–       It is the responsibility of examiners to ensure that all candidates involved in sparring wear groin guards. If any of the candidates does not have groin guard or refuse to wear one, he or she will automatically fail.

–       Grading requirements shall be guided by the grading syllabi.

–       All examiners, grading officials and coaches work as a team. They should respect one another regardless of seniority. They are free to draw the attention of one another if they find that the system is not working well. The focus should be to ensure that the grading is conducted safely, smoothly and efficiently.

Examiner Promotion

The Federation is pleased to announce that Mr Patrick Tan Yong Chen has been confirmed an examiner with immediate effect. He has served his provisional period well by demonstrating commitment, compassion and good judgment. Hence, his promotion is much deserved. Congratulations!
