Taekwondo: Good for my Daughter

Here is an unedited testimonial from Mr Alex Lim, father of Lynette Lim.

“Lynette Lim is an Anglican TKD alumna, who started TKD lessons at Elias CC when she was in Primary 3. As she progressed from white belt to junior black belt, she was particularly keen on Kyorugi and trained very hard with coaches at Elias CC, Mountbatten CC and Tampines Changkat CC. With reinforced discipline and intense trainings by dedicated coaches, especially Coach Tan Tak Hua and Master Lee, and a personal desire to excel, Lynette had managed to win various prizes in both Poomsae and Kyorugi competitions.

At Secondary 2, she decided to dedicate more time on her new found interest in track and field jumps. Although the sport is different, she recognizes that to do well, there is still the need for the same discipline, focus and inspiration, which she learnt while in Anglican TKD. She brought this fighting spirit and attitude into jumps and continue do well by winning prizes and breaking records. http://www.tnp.sg/sss/content/seventh-heaven-lynette

I hope the young students at Anglican TKD appreciate the opportunity to learn something while having TKD lessons. It is not just about how well you kick or block, but the discipline, fighting spirit and attitude that you need to bring into the sport. As a parent, I am proud of her achievements regardless in TKD or jumps and I am equally appreciative of the fact that her time spent at Anglican TKD played a significant role in her childhood development. I hope her achievements will be an inspiration to others just like she got hers from Anglican TKD.

Thank you to Master Lee, Coach Tan, other coaches (Sin-Yu, Pei-Qi, Esther and others, whom I apologise that I can’t remmember everyone’s names) and sparring partners who had trained with her.

P.S. Lynette has just been nominated for the top 10 TNP School Sports Stars 2013 – http://www.tnp.sg/sss/webform/vote-your-top-10-tnp-school-sports-stars-2013. Appreciate if you could also support her. Many thanks in advance!”

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation is confident that the training of taekwondo has resulted in life-changing experiences for the better for many participants. It will continue to be at the forefront of proactively promoting taekwondo as a tool for character development.

Change of Date for Poomsae Referee Refresher Seminar

The Poomsae Referee Refresher Seminar has been rescheduled to be held on Sunday 24 November 2013 from 9.00am to 2.00pm.  The venue will depend on the response.

The following information, except for the registration period, remains unchanged.

All qualified poomsae referees (active or inactive) should attend the seminar if they wish to continue officiating.

Clubs, which participate in poomsae competitions, will do well to have qualified poomsae referees in their teams for three reasons – they can compete in the names of their clubs, they do not have to depend on other clubs for referees, and they can capitalize on the expertise for their referees to prepare their players better.

As the Singapore Taekwondo Federation is planning to introduce creative poomsae next year, the seminar will cover both standard and creative poomsae rules.

The dress code is ‘dobok’.

Participants are required to bring their own writing materials and be prepared for the tests which will comprise the following.

  • Recitation of STF pledge
  • Theory – Error Identification and Presentation Evaluation
  • Practical – Poomsae Performance (One poomsae selected from Sa-Jang to Taebaek)

Please take note of the registration period and course fee.

Beware, You Can Get into Trouble

0

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) has signed agreements with the following companies on the use of its trade marks – that is its logo and the wordings used on the back of the uniform.

  1. Induk Taekwondo (Nike)
  2. K & G Marketing (Champ & Adidas)
  3. Liang Seng Sports Equipment Pte Ltd (Victory & Victory – Mudoin)
  4. Mooto Equipment & Holdings Pte Ltd (Mooto)
It has come to our attention that some members are wearing new uniforms, which are not among the approved brands, bearing STF trade marks. This is not advisable as they may face problems with STF.

Only the above brands of uniforms are allowed to bear STF trade marks.

However, members wearing any of the approved brands must also ensure that the uniforms are bought or come from the respective Companies.  They will also get into trouble with the STF if they buy the uniforms with STF trade marks from unauthorized sources.

All members are advised to get their uniforms from the Companies listed above to avoid any unpleasantness.

Please email STF at stfhq@stf.org.sg if you require any further clarifications or information.

Two Promotions and One New Appointment

0

The Management Committee, in its monthly meeting on 17 September 2013, endorsed the recommendations of the Chairman of the Board of Examiners for the following.

  • The re-appointment of all examiners except Mr Tan Cheng Hui who had requested for a break.
  • The promotion of Mr Lai Han Seng and Mr Leon Koh Wee Kiat from Provisional Examiner to Examiner.
  • The appointment of Mr Patrick Tan Yong Chen as a Provisional Examiner.

During the provisional period, Mr Lai and Mr Koh had acted in the best interest of the candidates, conducted themselves responsibly and maintained a high level of integrity.  Hence, they were granted the promotion.

Mr Patrick Tan, a 7th dan black belt holder and qualified coach and national referee, has been very supportive of the goals of the STF.  He has demonstrated qualities that meet the requirements of an examiner.  The Management was convinced that he could contribute effectively as a member of the Board of Examiners.

To all examiners: Congratulations on the appointments and keep up the good work!
