Daedo Sensing Socks for the National Championships

0

It was announced earlier that Daedo PSS will be used for categories featured on the last day (that is, Sunday 1 September 2013) of the National Championships.

Although it costs a lot of money for the STF to introduce PSS and Video Replay, it is necessary to provide opportunities for our officials, coaches and players to experience the latest practices in the sport and enhance their technical competence.

For participants, they have the choice of using re-cycled sensing socks or new ones.  Players have to wear the socks.  They are not for the protection of their ankles and insteps.  The sensor in the sock must come into contact, with the required minimum impact level, with the sensor on the body protector for the system to recognize it as a score.  Without the socks, the player cannot score with body kicking techniques. It does not matter how hard he or she kicks on the target.

Players who do not want to wear used socks may purchase them from the following Daedo agent.

K & G Marketing Pte Ltd
2, Jurong East St 21
IMM Building#04-31J1
Singapore 609601

The company will also sell the socks at the venue.  Most importantly, it has been kind enough to agree with the STF to bring down the price of the socks from $95 to $55 (almost at cost price) to support the development of the sport in Singapore.

For more information on the product, you may contact Ms Krist Koh at 6569-3536 or email her at MARKETING@KNGHUB.COM.

NCAP Level 2 Required for Coach Pass (National Competitions)

0

In the 2011 Coach Seminar, the STF announced that NCAP Level 2 (Technical) will be required for local coaches who wish to coach at national-level competitions.  This is to encourage them to upgrade themselves for the benefits of their students.

For renewal of coach passes in 2014, there will be two classes of coach passes.

–  Coach Pass (National Competitions)
–  Coach Pass (Club Competitions)

Coach Pass (National Competitions) is for those with NCAP Level 2 (Technical) and Coach Pass (Club Competitions) is for those with NCAP Level 1 (Technical)

If you have not achieved your Level 2 qualification, your last chance for this year to do so will be at the coming course which will be held on 7, 8 14, 15 & 22 September 2013 at the STF National Training Centre.

For more information on the course, please see the posting at www.stf.sg/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1229.

The registration form is available in the Forms folder.

Be Better

0

Michael Josephson said: “Character is revealed by how you behave when you think you won’t get caught.”

This wise saying is something for all of us, taekwondo members, to remember if we value our character. And we believe that we all do. After all, as Woodrow Wilson put it: “If you lose your wealth, you have lost nothing. If you lose your health, you have lost something. But if you lose your character, you have lost everything.”

By now, you may be wondering if a growing number of our members have conducted themselves in a manner less than desirable. The good news is: NO. The Singapore Taekwondo Federation is proud to note that the discipline of its members has improved over the years.

However, the STF wants everyone to be better by occasionally sharing outstanding behavior that should be emulated.

Melvin Low, a qualified coach and national referee, does not believe in hiding behind the cloak of anonymity when he provides feedback to the STF. He writes honestly from the heart in palatable language what has gone wrong and what needs improvements. Most importantly, he is also receptive to reasonable explanations.

In a recent email to the STF, he said: “I have a lot of feedback over what can be improved. But, sometimes, I am afraid to say it because I am worried that I may seem stupid or may be highlighting trivial matters.”

We respect him for thinking through what he has in mind rather than sending anonymous email in language used by riffraff.

Remember, taekwondo is for good people who wish to be better and bad people who want to be good. Taekwondo is not for bad people with a strong desire to remain bad.

National Kyorugi Championships – More Information

During the briefing for the national competition, team managers and coaches have been informed that the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) has planned to use the PSS and Video Replay for the final day of the competition.

Many team managers and coaches have expressed concern about the costs of using the PSS.

In an email of the STF, Melvin Low, a qualified coach and national referee, said: “It is important to be able to change with the times. Otherwise, we would be left far behind.”

The STF agrees with him and, at the same time, understands that players should not be discouraged by the prohibitive cost of participation. Therefore, it has come up with what it believes is the best solution.

If everything goes according to plan, Daedo PSS will be used for the competition this Sunday for all categories. Recycled socks will be provided. If competitors feel that it is unhygienic, they may purchase them at the venue. The STF is still negotiating for the lowest price possible.

All coaches are to note the following for the smooth and efficient running of the competition.

  • Ensure that the competitors wear STF-approved uniforms which comply with the uniform code.
  • Make sure that the competitors have their finger and toe nails trimmed before reporting at the inspection desk.

Important Information for Kyorugi Referees

0

The venue of the Kyorugi Referee review and retest has been changed to TOA PAYOH SPORTS HALL.

The time remains unchanged at 7.30pm.

Please note that the dress code is ‘dobok’.

We have received some requests from participants who attended the Refresher Seminar for another review to be conducted next week.

The STF, after consulting with the course conductors who are prepared to make themselves available next week, has decided to organize a second review on Tuesday 27 August 2013 at 7.30pm at the STF National Training Centre.

However, those who choose to attend the second review will not be eligible to officiate in the National Kyorugi Championships on 24 & 25 August 2013.

Please call the Secretariat at 6345 1491 by 12 noon on Friday 23 August 2013 if you choose to attend the second seminar.  Otherwise, you will be consider as absent for the review and your licence will not be renewed.

Kyorugi Referee Course Results August 2013

0

The results of the Kyorugi Referee Course held on 3, 4 & 10 August 2013 are attached.

The retest will be conducted on Friday 23 August 2013 at the STF National Training Centre from 7.30pm onwards.

Those who are interested to take the retest must call the Secretariat at 6345 1491 to register.  Payment for the retest of $20 per component may be made on the retest day.  On the spot registration is $30 per component.

The STF notes with regret the high percentage of failures in the practical component.  There is no reason for this as almost all affiliates have qualified national referees who can help them prepare for the course.

The STF would like to appeal to all clubs to train their members before sending them for any qualification course.  There are a few clubs which are doing just that.  Their students not only passed with ease the various courses but were also outstanding.  All affiliates should go the extra mile for their members.

Referee Refresher Course Results

0

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) is aiming to bring the standard of referee to that of the players and coaches.  One of the areas which need attention is the understanding of the interpretations of the rules.

For example, all referees understand that a penalty has to be given for, say, crossing the boundary line.  However, the STF is concerned with the referees’ understanding of the application of the rule.  Why?  Inconsistent applications of the rules will lead to controversies.  And it is not healthy for the sport.

The outcome of the theory test conducted at the seminar gives a compelling reason why the STF should put in more effort towards the education of its referees.

The results are attached.

A review session will be conducted at the STF National Training Centre on Friday 23 August 2013 from 7.30pm onwards.

Referees who are interested to attend the review must call the Secretariat on 6345 1491 to register.

The review fee of $20 may be paid on the day of the review. On the spot, registration is $30.

Those who obtained provisional pass must be present as there are a number of questions they need to know the correct answers.  Otherwise, their licence will not be renewed.  They will not be required to pay the review fee.
