Referee Promotion 15 August 2013

The Chairman of the Board of Referees has approved the following applications for promotion.Poomsae

  • Ong Bee Ai  (2nd class to 1st class)
  • Teo Yeow Hong (3rd class to 2nd class)

Kyorugi

  • Nurhafiez Nazir Ahmad (3P class to 3rd class)

 In considering the applications, the Chairman of the Board of Referees noted that a number of applicants do not meet the promotion criteria.  One of them applied for promotion after clocking only 8 hours of officiating experience.  This is well below the required 40 hours.  Another applicant officiated 58.5 hours which did not include at least 30 hours at National competitions.All national referees are advised to apply for promotion when the meet the promotion requirements.  The promotion criteria can be found on Singapore Taekwondo Federation website under ‘Guidelines’.

Important Information – Kyorugi Referee Refresher Seminar

The Kyorugi Referee Refresher Seminar on Sunday 18 August 2013 from 9.00am will be held at the Temasek Polytechnic Sports Complex at 21 Tampines Avenue 1, Singapore 529757.

Registration will start at 8.30am.  In view of the number, we will appreciate it if participants can get themselves registered well before the start of the seminar.

Please bring your own writing materials.  The dress code is ‘dobok’.

The programme for the day is as follows

–          Registration

–          BP/HR Tests

–          STF Pledge Test

–          Theory (Observations & Competition Rules)

–          Practical Refereeing

–          Theory Test

–          Practical Test

–          Physical Test

Participants who are not able to take the physical test on medical grounds are required to produce their medical certificates on the day or earlier.

The Board of Referees has decided that the following will be exempted from both the practical and physical tests.

–          Active referees who have accumulated at least 20 officiating hours since the last refresher seminar.

–          Active 1st class referees who have accumulated at least 10 officiating hours since the last refresher seminar.

To qualify for the exemption, referees must produce their referee record books for verification.

Programme, Fixtures & Protector Sizes for the Ambassador Cup

The programme, fixtures and protector sizes for the 2013 National Taekwondo Kyorugi Championships Ambassador Cup are attached.

The event will be held on 24, 25 & 31 August 2013 and 1 September 2013.

A reminder to all referees and volunteers to report to Mr Andy Lee (Tournament Chairman) as follows.

–          Saturday, 24 & 31 August 2013 at 1.00pm

–          Sunday, 25 August 2013 & 1 September 2013 at 9.00am

Every participating team must provide at one referee for the duration of the championships to qualify for participation. The referee may not be the same person. For example, it is acceptable for a club to submit four referees, one each for every competition day. A club will be barred from future participation if its referee fails to fulfil his or her obligations without the approval of the Tournament Chairman.

Taekwondo Members Honored

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) is pleased to announce that two of its national squad members have been recognized for their taekwondo achievements.

Chelsea Ann Sim Shu Zhen, arguably the best poomsae performer in Singapore, received the Peter Lim Scholarship Award at a presentation ceremony held on 25 July 2013 at the Singapore Expo.

It was double happiness for Ng Ming Wei.

1 day later on 26 July 2013, Ming Wei was presented with the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Student Excellence Award for National Representative at its Awards Nite.

On 5 August 2013, he received a sports scholarship at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Arts & Sports Awards ceremony.


Chelsea and Ming Wei were honored for their outstanding performance in both local and international competitions.

The STF would like to congratulate them on their well-deserved recognition.

Ambassador Cup Up for Grab at Kyorugi Championships

The Ambassador Cup will be up for grab at the National Kyorugi Taekwondo Championships.

The challenge trophy, sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, will be awarded annually to the overall champion affiliate.

His Execellency, Ambassador Suh Chung-ha, will personally present the challenge trophy at the end of the event on Sunday 1 September 2013.

Here are some important information to take note of.

–  There will only be one challenge trophy awarded with effect from this year’s tournament.  (However, there will still be overall trophies for each division, ie Junior (Male), Junior (Female), etc.)

–  The final combined medal tally will include only medals won in categories with at least 3 contestants.

The programme, blank fixtures and protector sizes for the tournament are attached.

Representatives of participating affiliates are encouraged to print the documents and bring them along for the Team Manager Meeting and Drawing of Lots on Sunday 11 August 2013 at 3.00pm at the STF National Training Centre.

All participating affiliates are expected to have at least a representative each at the meeting.  During the meeting, important and helpful information will be provided.  It will also be a good time for the representatives to raise any questions they may have.

All Tickets Snap Up!

Tickets for a night of Taekwondo and K-Pop flew off the shelves like hotcakes!

All 320 tickets for the performance which will be held on Tuesday 13 August 2013 at 7.00pm at the National University of Singapore Cultural Centre were completely snapped up.

We thank all affiliates who have responded so enthusiastically to the event.

Calling All National Poomsae Champions

Are you interested to don the national colours or improve your poomsae performance skills?

If you are, here’s an opportunity for you to do so.

We are inviting all national poomsae champions (all categories from 12 years and above) to join the National Poomsae Squad.

The training schedule is as follows.

–  Monday to Thursday (7.30pm to 9.30pm)
–  Saturday (1.00pm to 3.00pm)
–  Sunday (12.00pm to 2.00pm)

For members of the squad who find difficulty in meeting the schedule, we also provide flexible training periods.

Poomsae champions may join the squad, subject to the approval of their respective instructors, at any time convenient to them by reporting for training at the STF National Training Centre, Block 80 Lorong Limau #04-191 Singapore 320080.

The paper work will be done later.

37th Annual General Meeting – Co-opted and Reserved Members

In accordance with the Constitution of the Singapore
Taekwondo Federation, the following members have been nominated by the
out-going Committee for co-option in the new Committee.

The following five affiliates are each entitled to a
reserved seat in the Management for the new term.

(d)  Edgefield Secondary School

(e)  Zenith TKD

The affiliates concerned are asked to submit in writing the names of
representatives who will take up the reserved seats by Thursday 8 August
2013 to the Secretary-General, Singapore Taekwondo Federation, 260A Tanjong
Katong Road Singapore 437048.

If the names of the reserved member are not submitted by the
stipulated date, the seat will be offered to the next affiliate in line.

PA-STF Results

The 2013 PA-STF Taekwondo Championships were succesfully held on 13 and 14 July 2013 in Jurong East Sports Hall.

The overall results are attached.

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation congratulates all the medal winners in the event.
