Poomsae Referee Course April 2014

The STF has received numerous calls from club officials to conduct a Poomsae Referee Course before the National Inter-School.

It has been decided to hold the course on 5 and 6 April 2014 at the STF National Training Centre.Black belt holders who wished to officiate at the National Inter-School 2014 and all STF-sanctioned poomsae tournaments should take this opportunity to gain the qualification as the next course is scheduled to be held in 2015.

NTU Retains Overall Top Position

The Nanyang Technological University retains its overall top position in the NTU Taekwondo Open Championships which were held on 8 and 9 March 2014 at its premises.

STF President, Mr Milan Kwee, was present on the first day of the event to officially open the tournament.

The STF congratulates the organizers on the success of the event.

Kyorugi Referee Course

The next National Kyorugi Referee Course will be held on 29 & 30 March 2014 and 5 April 2014 at the STF National Training Centre

Blackbelt players are also encouraged to attend the course as it will help them in the understanding of the rules.  The knowledge will stand them in good stead in their preparation for competitions and in the competitions.

All clubs are reminded to have sufficient referees to support their plan to participate in the coming national kyorugi tournament.  All participating teams must be represented by a referee each.  Clubs will not be allowed to ‘borrow’ referees from other clubs for any championships.

Information for PA Taekwondo Trainers

The People’s Association, in consultation with the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF), has drawn up a list of equipment (see attached) for trainees at the various stage of their development. This is necessary to create awareness and prevent any misunderstanding.

Optional equipment does not mean that it is redundant for the trainees. If the Trainers feel that the equipment is important for their training program, they can introduce it. For example, trainers may introduce hand mitts to their students if they believe that it is necessary for training. But students should not be compelled to buy them if they do not wish to.

Trainers should also take time to explain to their students the importance of some of the equipment like shin and forearm guards. While it is up to the students to decide if they want to use them for grading or not, they must understand that bruises may occur if there are accidental clashes during sparring if they do not wear the protective equipment.

Coach Seminar Reminder

The Coach Seminar 2014 will be held on Sunday 16 March 2014 at The Grassroots’ Club from 9.00am to 2.00pm.

Coaches are reminded that the dress code is ‘dobok’.

Registration will start at 8.00am and all participants must be seated by 8.45am.

Participants who are more than half an hour late will NOT be eligible for the coach pass.

Unarmed Combat Course (Level 1) Results Oct 2013 & Feb 2014

The results for the two Unarmed Combat Courses (Level 1) held on 5, 6 & 12 October 2013 and 8, 9 & 15 Febrauary 2014 at the STF National Training Centre are attached.

Participants who failed or are given provisional passes are to report to the course conductor for a retest and review session respectively on Wednesday 19 March 2014 at 7.30pm at the STF National Training Centre.  The retest fee is $20.  Otherwise they will be considered to be unsuccessful in the course.

A Rich Harvest

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation team of 6 senior, 3 junior, 2 cadet kyorugi players and 2 poomsae performers returned to Singapore on 10 February 2014 with a gold collection of trophies from the Asian Cities Gold Cup Taekwondo Championships held from 7 to 9 February 2014 in Hong Kong.

The players & performers won 5 golds, 3 silvers and 4 bronzes. They also finished among the overall trophy winners with the cadet male division clinching the overall 2nd position and the senior male division finishing overall 3rd.

Chelsea Sim, without doubt, is the best performer for the team at the tournament, winning 2 golds in the Female Individual Poomsae and in the Mixed Pair with Kang Rui Jie.

The organizers were so mesmerized by her performance that she was asked to give a demonstration before the presentation of prizes. The VIPs and spectators were awe by her scintillating performance.
