Michael Participates in International Course

Michael Ho, Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) examiner, participated in the 20th International Poomsae Referee Seminar held from 23 to 27 May in Jakarta, Indonesia.  His trip was sponsored by the STF which is committed to giving its members ample opportunity to upgrade themselves and be valuable members of the taekwondo community in the World.

Three other senior members – Lee Thiam Huat, Tan Cheng Hui and Wong Liang Ming, attended the International Referee Refresher Course which was held at the same time and place. They, all qualified International Poomsae Referees, did it out of their own interest to expand their officiating skills.

All of them returned richer in knowledge and ready to share the latest information with the Singapore national referees.

Chelsea Wins Gold for Singapore

Chelsea Sim, arguably the best poomsae athlete in Singapore, proved that she had what it took to demolish her oppositions in the 11th ATF Taekwondo Championships staged in the new capital of Myanmar, Nay Pyi Daw.

Facing strong contenders from Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and Vietnam, Chelsea took the title with her almost immaculate performances of Taegeuk 8 and Poomsae Koryo.  She was drawn to perform 3rd.  She took the first spot with a high score of 7.07 points putting Philippines who was first to perform in second place by only 0.01point

The question then on everybody’s mind was whether she could hold the lead as the known top two contenders for the crown – Indonesia (Korea Open Champion) and Myanmar (2011 SEA Games bronze medallist) – had not taken the stage yet.

Myanmar performed after Vietnam but could only manage a third spot, 0.01 point behind Philippines.  The positions remained unchanged till the end as the rest of the field could not produce performances which impressed the judges.

It was indeed a great show by Chelsea.

NTU Taekwondo Club under the leadership of Mr Victor Ho, its 25th President, visited Assisi Hospice on Friday 17 May 2013 on Upper Thomson Road to bring joy to the participants who were suffering from terminal illness.

The group spent about 2 hours at the Hospice entertaining them with a taekwondo demonstration and some games like ‘guess the song’, ‘drawing competition’ and ‘bingo’.

Said Victor: “One of the things that really touched me is that, despite their illness, the patients displayed enthusiasm in participating in the activities. I was impressed with their creativity displayed by them during the ‘drawing competition’.”

He added: “Most importantly, I learned from Ms Yu, the Senior Volunteer Programme Executive, that the patients would be happy to see volunteers coming to visit them and organizing activities for them.

Members of the NTU Taekwondo Club has shown to that taekwondo is indeed a powerful tool which can be harnessed for the good of our society.

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation looks forward to seeing more members living up to the true spirit of taekwondo.
