The Singapore Taekwondo Federation is inviting players (male and female) who are interested to don the national colours to join its national squad (poomsae and kyorugi).

The national squad is now open to all medalists in the national championships or other STF-sanctioned or organized championships.

  • If you are a Singapore Citizen (born in 1997 or 1998) and eligible for the training squad and aspire to represent Singapore in the World Qualification Tournament for the Youth Olympic Games in 2014, you should ask your coach to nominate you for inclusion into the kyorugi squad.
  • If you are a Singapore Citizen (born in 1998 or earlier) and keen to represent Singapore in the 2015 SEA Games which will be held in Singapore, you should also ask you coach to nominate you for inclusion into the poomsae and kyorugi squad.

You are invited to call Jolene, Theresa or Rosalind at 6345 1491 to register for admission into the squad.

The other criteria:

  • Your entry into the squad must be approved by your coach. (If you have problems convincing your coach to allow you to join the club, the STF will try its best to see how it can assist you).
  • You continue to be a paid member of your club.
  • You are prepared to train at least 3 times a week in preparation for the short listing of players for the national team.
  • You accept the code of conduct of squad members.

Affiliates which have potential players may recommend them for admission. The players may not have competed or have lost to the eventual medalists.

All affiliates are urged to encourage their members to join the national squad as it will provide good exposure for their players. They will have ample opportunity to exchange skills with better players and learn from each other.

Eric, who holds a 4th dan black belt, had demonstrated humility and perseverance – the values cultivated through his taekwondo training – to eventually find his way to University of Edinburgh to pursue a degree course in applied sports science.  The  taekwondo community is certainly proud of him for demonstrating the spirit of taekwonDO.

First Eleven Champions in Koko Krunch Tourney

11 champions were produced at the Koko Krunch Junior Taekwondo Championships graced by Mr
Lim Biow Chuan, MP for Mountbatten, as the Guest of Honor and sponsored by
Nestle Koko Krunch.

And each of winners could be considered a record holder.  Why not? They were the first champions in the Singaporeleg of the competition which was the inaugural edition. In the past, only Malaysian states were involved in the tournament which kicked off in 2006.

The competition staged on Sunday 28 April 2013 was as electrifying as it was entertaining. It saw players aged from 7 to 12 years old
using their entire arsenal of kicks and punches to get to the top. Exchanges were fast and furious. It was matched only by the loud vocal support of the crowd comprising grandparents, parents, club officials, coaches and fellow taekwondo members.

Many players were highly motivated and impressive. They displayed excellent techniques and tactics. On top of that, they seemed to have endless supply of energy to keep them going and going. The panel of selectors for the Best Performance Awards had a hard time picking the cream of the crop.

After some deliberation, they decided on Nicholas Wen Yan Hua (St Teresa TKD) and Isabel Rivas (J H Kim Millenia) for the male and female awards respectively.

The top three places for the male and female categories went to the following.

Junior
(Male)

1st        J H Kim (Bt Timah)

2nd       ACME TKD

3rd        J H Kim (Serangoon)

Junior
(Female)

1st        J H Kim (Millenia)

2nd       J H Kim (Bt Timah)

3rd        Zen Martial Arts & Fitness

J H Kim (Bt Timah) with the most number of gold medals won captured the Regional Grand
Champion title.

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation would like to put on record its appreciation to

  • Mr Lim Biow Chuan for taking time off from his busy schedule to support the event,
  • Nestle Koko Krunch for the generous support of the event which provided players with another platform to
test their skills and everyone at the championships free sampling of its delicious and nutritious breakfast cereals and
  • all officials, referees and volunteers for their contributions to the success of the event.

The other results are attached.

Competitive Championships

The National Inter-School Taekwondo Championships held from 22 to 26 April 2013 would be remembered for their competitiveness resulting from better performances by the players and performers.

While many ‘kyorugi’ matches were closely fought, only 0.1 point differentiated the gold and silver medalists in the various categories of the poomsae event. And for the overall results in some divisions, only one or two points separated the top two schools.

In the ‘A’ Division (Female), Hwa Chong Institution edged Temasek Junior College, a powerhouse in the competition, to second place by only one point.

Springfield Secondary School, the defending champion, had to hand its ‘B’ Division (Male) title to Bowen Secondary School after it finished just one point shy of what it required to tie for first place.

It was sweet revenge for Temasek Primary School when it beat St Anthony’s Canossian Primary School. Last year St Anthony’s took the title garnering three points more than Temasek. This year, Temasek managed to capture the crown by having two points more than its closest rival, St Anthony’s.

It had been an exciting and energy-sapping five-day competition for participants and officials. But it was all worth it as the competition was successfully and smoothly conducted.

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) was grateful to the support of officials, referees, medical team and volunteers. They were the life line of the championships. Without their untiring devotion to the operations of the competition, it would not have been possible to for the championships to be staged. The STF recognized that they were the true heroes who made the champions in the competition.

The overall and detailed results are attached.
