Choi Dae Ho, a member of the World Taekwondo Federation Peace Corp, did his parents, his taekwondo organizations and all of us in taekwondo proud when he stoop in front of an old lady and gave her his slippers.

Dae Ho demonstrated the true spirit of taekwondo on his way back after a trip to Sentosa during his break from teaching the Singapore National Squad. He saw the old lady without slippers. Spontaneously, he removed his slippers and offered them to her. As if that was not enough, he went down and wore the slippers for her.

This photo of barefooted Dae Ho was taken by another WTPC member, Miss Kim Jeong Hee, without his knowledge.

It was a gesture which came naturally for him. His taekwondo training in humility and helpfulness certainly had contributed to it!When he got off the bus, he found the pathway too hot for his bare feet.  He had to run all the way back to his hostel.  Nevertheless, he was delighted that he had done a good deed.

Dae Ho, the taekwondo fraternity in Singapore is proud of you!

New Sparring Course

0

A recent study reveals that, despite doing well in their poomsae, quite a number of candidates did not make the grade. The reason – they fail their sparring. It is because most of them do not know what the examiners are looking for.

To help candidates pass their grading on their first try, the Singapore Taekwondo Federation is introducing a new sparring course similar in structure to the unarmed combat course.

The sparring course will have three levels – Fundamental, Level 1 and Level 2.

Candidates going for their 1st dan will be exempted from sparring if they have the fundamental certification. Those with Levels 1 and 2 will be exempted from sparring when they go for their 2nd and 3rd dan respectively.

The first fundamental sparring course will be held as follows.

Six Taekwondo Peace Corps members – two supervisors and 4 instructors – paid a courtesy call on Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) President, Mr Milan Kwee.

On 23 January 2013, the four instructors (Mr Choi Dae Ho, Mr Jeong Je Young, Ms Lee Eun Soo and Ms Kim Jeong Hee) visited the STF Secretariat. After being introduced to the President, they were presented souvenirs to commemorate their visit.

Similarly the two supervisors (Ms Yoo Jae Hee and Mr Won Dong Hyun) who came to the Secretariat on 28 January 2013 were also given souvenirs.

Both groups from the Peace Corps spoke briefly with the President before a presentation was given to show them the development of taekwondo in Singapore. They were visibly impressed with the various initiatives of the STF including programmes like TeamgOLD and the Taekwondo with a Heart.

Replying to a question by the President, Mr Won said that he was happy with the arrangements made by the STF. In support of Mr Won’s statement, Ms Yoo revealed that one of the instructors had requested to remain in Singapore for a longer period.

The supervisors left Singapore on the evening of 28 January while the instructors would be leaving on 25 February 2013.   Club leaders and senior coaches could catch them in action in a performance specially arranged for the STF Chinese New Year Party which will be held on 15 February 2013.
