Clubs with cadet players who are interested to excel in the sport are encouraged to nominate them by providing their names to the Secretariat either by telephone (6345 1491) or email (stf@singapore.com).

Among other things, players must remain as members of their respective clubs to qualify for continued membership in the cadet squad.  It will be the responsibility of the club coaches to inform the Secretariat if any of their members who are in the squad leaves their club.

Friendly Match Postponed

0

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) is pleased that many members have signed up for the friendly match with Kelantan State Taekwondo Association (KSTA) this Saturday 29 December 2012.

KSTA has emailed the STF this morning to request for the event to be rescheduled as advised by the bus operator for the team.

Currently, Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang are experiencing heavy flooding. It is compounded by heavy rain which does not seem to abate any time soon. As it will not be possible for the bus to pass through all the flood-hit states, it will be safer to postpone the friendly match to a later date to be fixed by KSTA.

The STF would like to apologize to all members who have been eagerly looking forward to the exchanges.

Good Effort by University Combined Team

The University taekwondo team representing Singapore at the 16th Asean University Games returned from Vientiane, Laos where the event was held from 12 to 19 December 2012 with 4 bronze medals.  It was a creditable performance considering the players’ study commitment.

Said Mr Yum Shoen Keng, the Team Manager and also the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Senior Assistant Director (Sports): “With the team preparation affected by the University examinations, it would be difficult for the team to perform better than what they achieved.”

The team members, who were students of the various Universities in Singapore, came together to train for the competition under coach Tan Kheng Juan only a couple weeks before they boarded the plane for Vientiane.  Despite that, they gave their best effort to give their opponents a run for their money.

The STF supported the event with 2 international referees.  They are Mr Tan Kok Heng and Mr Michael Ho.

The following are the players from Singapore.

  • Chua Juan Juan (NTU)
  • Rachel Koh (NTU)

One Tournament Many Record Holders

0

The 1st Demonstration Tournament held on 15 December 2012 was successfully and safely conducted.

It was a success because the competition provided the best environment for the participants to showcase their skills. What’s more, the event ran like clockwork and it gave the spectators a lot to cheer for.  The camaraderie among the participants was simply fantastic.

More importantly, the competition was safe.  The medical team present had no work and they spent their time enjoying the show which produced many record holders.  Among them, was Baek Moo Jin (Ildo Taekwondo) who broke twenty concrete slabs with his fist and sliced fifteen slabs with his knife-hand.  It made him the strongest in the competition.

Setting the record for kicking the highest was Lee Kin Wee (NTU).  He jumped and broke, with his foot, a plank placed 2.64m high to beat Song Jeong Ho (Top Taekwondo) who had earlier won the Senior (Male) title for going the furthest with his flying side kick.

However, if there was any award for creating the most excitement in the competition, it had to go to Sebastian Ng (St Teresa TKD) and Ethan Winston Sum (Acme TKD),  They put the crowd on tenterhooks while they tried to outdo each other in the Young Junior (Male) high kick contest.  When Ethan finally faltered, Sebastian went one higher for the crown.

The tournament ended with all participants looking forward to next year’s competition which tested their speed, power and creativity.

The results are attached.
