Taekwondo Publicity

0

From time to time, affiliates of Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) are approached by Media Corps, Advertising Agencies and Production Houses to assist in their projects which feature taekwondo.

The STF has no objection to affiliates participating in the projects so long as they cast a good light on the sport. However, if they reflect a poor image of the sport or project a wrong idea of the sport, affiliates should avoid participating in them.

Affiliates are requested to remind their members not to be involved in any project that will bring adverse publicity to the sport.

If in doubt, please check with the STF by calling 6345-1491 or emailing stf@singapore.com before committing to any request.

World Youth Camp Invitation

Singapore has been invited to send 1 official and 9 players to the 4th World Youth Camp which will be held from 19 to 26 July 2012 in Seoul and Muju, Korea.

All participating clubs in the 6th National Poomsae Championships which will be held on 9 and 10 June 2012 are reminded that it is their obligations to send at least one qualified poomsae referee each.

To date only 11 clubs have submitted the names of their referees. Those participating clubs which have not done so are kindly requested to do so by calling the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) Secretariat at 6345 1491 or submitting their names by email to stf@singapore.com.

Samuel Lee Wei Kang. Joyce Lim Soon Yi, Jason Tan Junwei and Muhd Norhalim Bin Mohd Zahruddin were among the athletes honored for their sports achievements at the Singapore Sports Awards 2012. They received the meritorious award (individual).

The event, held on 29 May 2012 at Raffles Convention Centre, was attended by sports ‘who’s who’ including Mr Teo Chee Hean (Deputy Prime Minister and Singapore National Olympic Council President), Mr Chan Chun Sing (Minister for Community, Youth and Sports), Mr Ng Ser Miang (Vice-President, International Olympic Committee), Mr Richard Seow (Singapore Sports Council Chairman) and Presidents of various National Sports Associations.

That was not all. To land prestige to the occasion, the ceremony was graced by Dr Tony Tan, President of the Republic of Singapore, as the guest of honor.

The taekwondo community should be proud that taekwondo athletes were included in the honor list as not many sports had their athletes recognized.

Said Norhalim after receiving his award: “I have mixed feelings. While feeling honored and thankful because the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) had nominated me for the award, I am motivated to train harder for future competitions.”

Jason Tan, who had won the award three times before, said: “I feel happy and honored to be awarded. Most of all, I am grateful to my parents, the STF, my coaches and my teammates for their support. Without which, I will not be where I am today.”

Joyce and Samuel also felt honored and thankful for the awards.

STF President, Mr Milan Kwee, was present to witness the award ceremony. He congratulated the 4 taekwondo recipients on their achievements.
