Unarmed Combat Programme (Level 2)

The Unarmed Combat Programme (Level 2) will be held from 2, 3, 9, 10, 16 and 17 July 2011 at the STF National Training Centre.  For the timings and other details, please see the attached course outline 

You will notice that the timings for poom belts and black belts are different.  However, if the response is not so good for either the poom belt or black belt course, it will be combined.  The combined course will be held at the earlier timing.

Besides exemption from the unarmed combat component for the promotion test, the qualification will allow successful participants to move on to Level 3.The registration form is also attached.  All cheques must be crossed and made payable to the “Singapore Taekwondo Federation”.

Sparring Workshop for Junior Red 1 and Poom Belts

Following the recent unarmed combat course and grading preparation workshop, there were requests from some participants and parents for a sparring workshop.  For the participants, they want to learn more about grading and competition sparring.  As for the parents, well, they were requesting it for their children.

Here are the details for the sparring workshop which has been scheduled for 19 June 2011.

  • 1 Full-time Taekwondo Instructor
  • 1 Part-time Taekwondo Instructor

For the post of Taekwondo Instructor, coaching experience and coaching certification are preferred.  He or she is required to assist the Chief Instructor to conduct group or individual lessons.

Poomsae Coach Course Results 29 May 2011

The results of the Poomsae Coach Course held on 29 May 2011 at the STF National Training Centre are attached.

A retest would be held on Saturday 11 June 2011 at 5.00pm at the STF National Training Centre for those who had failed either the theory or practical components.

Unsuccessful participants who are interested in the retest must register with the STF by Thursday 9 June 2011. The fee is $20 per component. On the spot registration is $30.  Participants are advised to read their notes and practised their poomsae to prepare for the retest.Those who received a Provisional pass for either the theory or practical component must attend the retest for an re-evaluation.  Otherwise, they would be considered as failing the course.

Participants who wished to participate in the Poomsae Referee Course must be a qualified Poomsae Coach.

35th Annual General Meeting – Reserved Members

In accordance with paragraph 7a(ii) of the Constitution, the following five affiliates are each entitled to a reserved seat in the Management for the new term.

The affiliates concerned are asked to submit in writing the names of representatives who will take up the reserved seats by 10 June 2011 to the Hon Secretary, Singapore Taekwondo Federation, 260A Tanjong Katong Road, Singapore 437048.

Poomsae Referee Course June 2011

The Poomsae Referees’ Course will be held on 18 and 19 June 2011 at the STF National Training Centre.

All clubs are reminded to have sufficient poomsae referees to support their plan to participate in the National Poomsae Championships scheduled to be held on 25 and 26 June 2011 at Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall as all participating teams must be represented by a poomsae referee each. 

There are several cases of clubs begging to borrow referees from other clubs in previous tournaments.  This practice is no longer allowed for all tournaments.  Hence, all clubs are advised to have their own poomsae referees.The detailed information is as follows.

Unarmed Combat Course (Level 1) Results

135 participants attended the Unarmed Combat Course (Level 1) held on 14, 15, 21 and 22 May 2011 at the STF National Training Centre.

The course was conducted by Mr Leon Koh and supervised by Mr RA Jeyaraman, Chairman of the Martial Arts Committee.

The results of the course are attached.

National Kyorugi Referee Course

Induk Taekwondo will be organizing a National Kyorugi Referee Course sanctioned by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation. The details are as follows.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1. Submission for the Grading can only be at the STF office during office hours.

2. Please ensure that ALL grading cards are properly completed and duly endorsed. A recent photograph of the candidate must be attached.

3. For ALL candidates who are going for Red 1 & above , please have the following documents during submission:

a. Candidate’s grading card

b. 1 photocopy of the candidate’s Identity Card (front & back) / Birth Certificate (for candidate below age of 12)

c. 2 recent IC / passport photographs of the candidate

d. Form B (duly completed)

Submission will not be accepted if any of the documents is not available or, for Form B, partially completed.

4. Submission will not be accepted if candidate fails to produce any of the documents mentioned above.

5. The last day of submission is on 27 JUNE 2011 (MONDAY) . Any submission after this date will be considered as LATE SUBMISSION.

6. Late submissions for candidates taking Brown 1 & above are to be done within two (2) weeks from 28 June 2011 (Tuesday). Submission beyond the grace period of two (2) weeks WILL NOT be accepted. An administrative fee will be charged accordingly for late submission. The charges are as follows:

8. A roll call will be taken at 1.30pm for Red 1 (Senior) candidates going for 1st dan and 2.30pm for 1st dan , 1st poom and higher candidates. Those who miss the roll call will be considered as ABSENT or LATECOMERS. Latecomers will not be graded.

9. Candidates are to turn up in proper dress code (as stipulated by the STF) for the grading. Candidates who fail to comply with the dress code will not be allowed to take the grading.

10. Supplementary Grading can only be conducted two (2) weeks before or after the Centralised Grading and will be subjected to the approval of the Grading Department.

11. Candidates will be taking the grading at their own risk and therefore will not hold the Federation, the Grading Department or anyone so concerned, responsible for any injuries, accidents or mishaps that may befall on them during the course of the grading.

Jason Tan Wins Another Award

Jason Tan Junwei was conferred Temasek Polytechnic Sportsperson of the Year at the CCA Awards 2011.

The award was to recognize his achievements as an athlete and student.

As an athlete Jason had won numerous titles for Temasek Polytechnic. These included the NTU Taekwondo Open 2010, the inaugural Polytechnic-ITE Taekwondo Invitational Championships 2011 and the National Poomsae Championships 2010.

Outside the arena, Jason did well in a demanding curriculum in the Temasek Design School’s Diploma in Retail & Hospitality Design.

Jason said, “I am pleased that my accomplishments have been recognized by my school.

“My achievements were possible because I have caring parents, excellent teachers and coaches and supportive friends not only in Temasek Polytechnic but also in the STF and my club. From the bottom of my heart, I thank all of them for being so kind to me.”
