The Poomsae Coach Course will be conducted on Sunday 19 December 2010 from 2.00pm to 10.00pm at the National Training Centre (Whampoa) to qualify black belts as poomsae coaches.

Successful participants will be issued with the Poomsae Coach (Level 1) Certificate if they have a Level 1 NCAP or Taekwondo Coaching qualification. However, for successful participants without the coaching qualification, a Level 1P certificate will be awarded. They will be entitled to be promoted to Level 1 on getting the relevant coaching qualification.

For the course, there are two components. For the theory component, the participants will learn about the principles of movements and the rules of poomsae competition relevant to poomsae coaches. For the practical session, the participants will taught the finer points of poomsae performance from Introductory Taegeuk to Poomsae Koryo.

A practical and theory tests will be conducted at the end of the course.

Those who aspire to be national poomsae referee should attend the course as the qualification is the basic requirement for participation in the Poomsae Referee Course.

Low Zi Ping Melvin has been promoted to 3^rd class national kyorugi referee.

He has officiated in five Singapore Taekwondo Federation sanctioned tournaments and clocked 44 hours to qualify for the promotion.

The Taekwondo Coaching Course organized annually by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) will now be replaced by the NCAP Technical Course.

Before the change, those who successfully completed the Taekwondo Coaching Course were issued with a coaching certification equivalent to the NCAP technical if they did not possess any NCAP theory certification. This was because the requirement was for all participants to attend the theory course before the technical course.

The change means that members are free to attend either the NCAP Technical Course or the NCAP Theory Course first.

Those holding the taekwondo coaching certification can now apply for direct conversion even though they have not attended the theory course. The application must be submitted by 19 November 2010 on the attached form and accompanied by a copy of the coaching certificate and the administrative fee of $20.

An NCAP Technical (Level 1) course will be conducted on 4, 5, 11 and 12 December 2010. More details on the course and the registration form are attached.

After watching the Korean Tigers in action on 30 October 2010, you may be tempted to perform some of the exciting techniques. However, we strongly advise you against it because it will be dangerous to do so if you do not know how to execute the skill safely.

Instead we recommend that you attend the demonstration workshop which will be conducted by Lim Hyun, the Principal of Hyun Taekwondo Academy and a taekwondo graduate and demonstration member of Kyung Hee University. Lim will not only show you the way but also guide you so that you will be able to perform the techniques effectively.

The ‘Kicking to the Ceiling’ programme specially design by Lim Hyun for the workshop is as follows.

–       Aerial cartwheel

–       Back flip

–       Back flip

The workshop, open to STF poom and black belt holders, will be held on Sunday 28 November 2010 from 2.30pm to 5.30pm at the STF National Training Centre at Blk 80, Lorong Limau, #04-191, Singapore 320080.  

The dress code for the workshop is ‘dobok’ and the fee is $30 per participant.
