Safety First For TEAMgOLD

0

TEAMgOLD members had a brief medical check-up before they started training on 26 July 2009. It would be a regular feature if the group continued to receive the support of Medic Network LLP.

The primary objectives of the check-up were to ensure that they were well enough to train and to monitor the progress of their fitness level.

Said Chin Khee Shin, one of the instructors of the group: “This is a good idea. Some of the members need to be reminded that they are no longer young. Sometimes they are overwhelmed by enthusiasm and forget that the mind is willing but the flesh is weak.

Steven Soh, another instructor of the group which is growing in numbers, added: “I am impressed with the progress of the members. They train very hard and give their all during the training. I am worried that they may injure themselves in the process. However, I am glad that it has been fun and injury-free workouts for all of them.

“Nevertheless, we are lucky to have the support of Medic Network LLP.”

First Recognized Taekwondo 9th Dan in Singapore

0

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) takes great pleasure to announce that its Board of Examiners Chairman and General Manager, Lim Teong Chin, had successfully achieved the coveted and highest grade of 9th dan for foreigners.

He obtained his grade in a promotion test conducted by Kukkiwon (the World authority for the award of international ranking for black belts) on 10 June 2009. This makes him the first and only taekwondo 9th dan in Singapore to be recognized by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), the Kukkiwon and the STF.

Lim and the examiners at Kukkiwon after the promotion test.

A true taekwondo exponent, Lim dedicated over 40 years to the art and sport. Besides being the highest local ranking exponent, Lim also achieved the following qualifications.

  • WTF International Kyorugi Referee (Special Class – Highest Level)
  • WTF International Poomsae Referee (1st Class – Highest Level)
  • Kukkiwon International Muye Referee (2nd Class)

Currently, he holds the following international positions.

  • Secretary-General, Asean Taekwondo Federation
  • Referee Chairman, Asian Taekwondo Union (the first non-Korean to be appointed the position)

Said Lim: “I cannot come so far without the support, encouragement and help from many people. And I owe them a debt of gratitude. At one stage, I lost steam and wanted to give up the sport. It was the current President and a great friend, Mr Milan Kwee, who rekindled my fire and spirit and made it possible for me to reach the top. My fellow coaches and my students also pushed me to achieve more. As they obtained higher grades, I had no choice but to upgrade.

“It may sound a bit cliché but the truth is: I am fortunate to have a wonderful and supportive family who shares my aspiration to do whatever I can in and for taekwondo.”

The STF is truly proud of Lim’s achievements and extends him its heartiest congratulations.

Instructor Warned

0

A warning had been issued to an instructor for participating in a taekwondo event not organized or sanctioned by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF). He had also been warned for breaching STF policy which forbade members from joining or continue joining non-STF recognised taekwondo clubs.

All STF members and affiliated clubs are reminded not to participate in taekwondo events or activities organized by non-STF recognised organizations and/or join non-STF clubs. Members from non-STF recognised clubs should discontinue their memberships with their respective clubs once they are accepted by the STF.

In order to avoid breaking the rules, members should check with the Federation before participating in any local or foreign taekwondo activities.

The STF will institute disciplinary action against any member or club for breaching the rules or any other rules and regulations of the STF.

Please feel free to email the STF at stkdf@mail.com if you require any clarification.

Annual Report

0

The report card for the performance of the Singapore Taekwondo Federation over the last one year indicated that the organisation is doing well and heading in the right direction. It was presented during the Annual General meeting on Saturday 25 July 2009.

The annual report stated among other things that “it had been another fruitful year under the watch of Mr Milan Kwee, STF President.

“The STF organized 20 courses and workshops, 6 tournaments at national level and 4 quarterly centralized promotion tests. All the activities were well participated. For example, the poomsae workshop held in January 2009 attracted 222 participants, the inter-school competitions held in May 2009 drew a participation of 1,254 students from 66 primary schools, 61 secondary schools and 11 institutions and the 3rd National Poomsae Championships in June 2009 saw 1,032 performers competing for honours.

“The participation figures were impressive. But it is surpassed by the awesome show of support and co-operation by club leaders, coaches and members.”

At the meeting, Mr Kwee took the opportunity to highlight the importance of exercising the attitude of “participant first” and observing the rules and regulations of the STF.

Said Mr Kwee: “The safety of the participants should never be compromised. It is the responsibility of clubs to provide a positive and safe training environment for their members.”

Mr Kwee went on to inform the meeting that an instructor had breached the rules of the STF. And the appropriate action would be taken against him. He advised members to check with the STF if they were not sure of any of its policies.

It was also revealed the meeting that STF 1st Vice-President Steven Soh would be heading the Dinner and Dance Organizing Committee. The function had been scheduled to be held on 19 June 2010 at Suntec Convention Hall.
