Outstanding Performance At The World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships 2021

The WT Online Poomsae Open Challenge was held throughout 2021 seeing the participations from countries all over the world. The championship was split into two parts – Qualifiers and Grand Final. We’re proud to announce that three of our Singapore Athletes made it to the Grand Final, after a tough fight with participants from all over the world.

Sister Linda Sim, 67, represented Singapore in the Grand Final for the Over 65, Female, Recognised Poomsae Event and came in 1st Place. Sister Linda is well-known in the circuit and the defending Champion in this category. Her sharp movements and smooth delivery of techniques has placed her as one of the best in her class.

Darren Yap, 17, represented Singapore in the Grand Final for the Junior, Male, Freestyle Poomsae Event and came in 3rd Place. This accomplishment sets precedent for us as the first medal attained by a Singaporean in this creative category at a global stage.

Nicholas Khaw, 16, represented Singapore in Grand Final for the Junior, Male, Recognised Poomsae Event and came in 6th Place. Nicholas is also the first Poomsae athlete in the Singapore to reach the finals of the World Championships for his category.

The Athletes pitted against some of the known powerhouses like Korea, Taiwan and USA and have held their own, competing neck to neck. Under the guidance of Coaches Ms. Lee Na Lee and Mr. Lee Jun Seong, our athletes have delivered results exceeding expectations.

We would like to congratulate Sister Linda Sim, Darren Yap and Nicholas Khaw for their excellent accomplishment at this outing. Their stellar performance has done STF proud and kept the Singapore flag flying high on a global stage.

SKILLSFUTURE FELLOWSHIPS 2021 – A FIRST FOR STF!

0

STF is proud to announce that Mr Lai Han Seng, our very own Secretary General, has been conferred the prestigious SkillsFuture Fellowships 2021. He was presented with the Award on 10 December 2021, by President Halimah Yacob. This is a first ever achievement by a Singaporean Taekwondo coach.

The SkillsFuture Fellowships, in joint partnership with tripartite partners, recognise Singaporeans who demonstrate skills mastery. Not only have they acquired depth in their skills, they are also advocates of lifelong learning, devoted to mentoring and developing others.

Mr Lai’s commitment to the sport of Taekwondo is undeniable. Besides achieving his black belt ranks and completing numerous certifications, to become a qualified International Referee and internationally certified instructor, he developed himself in areas including Sports & Exercise Science, Sports Nutrition and even Early Childhood Education, to improve his coaching pedagogy.

To help promote the sport, he is heavily involved in the Singapore Taekwondo Federation as a board member, course conductor and referee, and volunteers as a coach for the Children’s Aid Society. Additionally, he supports aspiring coaches by donating to the Republic Polytechnic Education Fund’s study awards through his company.

We are proud to celebrate Mr Lai’s accolade and achievement as we wish him all the best as he continues to inspire and make a difference to the development of Singapore Taekwondo.
