Selection Trials for 2019 Asian Cities Championships

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation will be conducting open selection trials for the 2019 Asian Cities Taekwondo Championships which will be held on 23 & 24 March 2019 in Hong Kong.

All affiliates are invited to participate in the open trials for both Kyorugi and Poomsae events.

The selection details are as follows.

                                  Trial          –           1.00pm

                                 *Poomsae  –  Taegeuk 5 to Hansu (12 years & above)

                                                     (*2 poomsae will be selected at random according to the age division)

                                  Kyorugi

                                  Weigh-in          –           12.00pm

                                   Trial                 –           1.30pm

                                   Age Groups      –           12 to 14 years old (Cadet )

                                                                      15 to 17 years old (Junior)

                                                                      18 years & above (Senior)

All participants must be SINGAPORE CITIZENS and are STF poom or black belt holders

Please fill in the attached forms and submit them to the Secretariat by Monday 14 January 2019.  There is no limit to the number of players each affiliate can field.  We reserve the right not to accept late submission, incomplete forms or registration without the necessary supporting documents. 

Registered players for the trials are to report at the STF National Training Centre by 12.00pm.Kyorugi players shall be considered for the category based on their actual weight on the day of the weigh-in and not according to the weight submitted in the form as we do not want to disqualify any players.  No weight allowance will be given.

Selected players will be required to fulfill the training requirements averaging 12 hours per week

The panel of selectors will comprise any 3 of the following senior technical members. 

–       Mr Steven Soh 

–       Mr RA Jeyaraman 

–       Mr Lee Thiam Poh 

–       Mr Tan Kok Heng

–       Mr Tan Cheng Hui

The player’s undertaking form is also attached.  The form must be signed by parents for players under the age of 21 years old.  Players will not be allowed to participate in the trials if they do not comply with the administrative requirements. Players with medical history must provide medical clearance from their doctor.

The trials would be open for observation by participants and the registered accompanying coaches (must be Level 2 qualified) only.   Please note that no photography and video recording will be allowed.

NCAP (Level 1) Technical Course (February 2019)

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) has received numerous requests to conduct the NCAP (Level 1) Technical Course before the competition season starts in March 2019.

The next NCAP (Level 1) course would be held on 9, 10, 16, 17 & 23 February 2019 at the STF National Training Centre. 

The primary objective of the course is to provide basic knowledge of coaching taekwondo skills.  On completing the course, participants will be able to organize practice sessions which are safe and challenging for taekwondo athletes.

However, participants would be required to attend the Coach Induction Course before they can apply for the Coach Pass.

Introduction of New Grading Cards

A brand new year with a new grading card.

With effect from January 2019, the blue grading card will not longer be in use for new candidates (Foundation Levels & White 10).  Those holding the blue grading cards will continue to use them.  It would be phased out by 2021.

The new yellow grading cards are now available for collection at the STF office at 35 Joo Chiat Place Singapore 427759 during office hours.  Please avoid lunch hour from 1.00pm to 2.00pm.

NRIC and passport numbers will not longer be required on the new cards as part of data protection.

Unarmed Combat Course (Level 1) Overall Results (October 2018)

The overall results for the Unarmed Combat Course (Level 1) held on 27 & 28 October 2018 and 27 November 2018 are attached.

Successful candidates will be exempted from the unarmed combat component when they take their 1st to 2nd poom/dan grading.

Poomsae Coach Course (Saturday 26 January 2019)

The primary objectives of the Poomsae Coach Course are to qualify black belts as poomsae coaches and provide them the passport to become a full-fledged national poomsae referee.

National Kyorugi Referee Course (5, 6 & 19 January 2019)

The next National Kyorugi Referee Course will be held on 5, 6 & 19 January 2019 at the STF National Training Centre

Blackbelt players are also encouraged to attend the course as it will help them in the understanding of the rules.  The knowledge will stand them in good stead in their preparation for competitions and in the competitions.

Please take note of the registration fees and closing date for the course.   The course will be postponed if there is insufficient participants.

2018 Tournament Results

It had been a busy tournament year for the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF).

The STF jointly organized the inaugural Singapore National Games Taekwondo event with Sport Singapore in August 2018 with tremendous success.  The National School Games saw an increased in the number of students competing in the tournament.

The results of all STF-organized tournaments held in 2018 are attached.

Come 2019, the STF hopes to introduce new categories for the National Poomsae and Kyorugi Championships.

As we are coming to the end of 2018, the STF would like to thank all affiliates, officials, participants and their parents for their unwavering support.  We look forward to a more exciting year ahead!

Grading Preparation Workshop (15 December 2018)

The workshop is open to red (senior and junior), poom and black belt holders.  Senior Red 1 and black belt holders are reminded that they will be required to recite the STF pledge at the end of the workshop.

The primary objective of the workshop is to point out to participants their performance flaws and the areas they should work on from the examiners’ perspective.  This will give the candidates a better chance of passing.

During the workshop, participants will be briefed on the grading guidelines and the expectations of the examiners.

Coaches may use the information acquired by their students at the workshop as a basis to guide them for their grading.

All candidates who have attended the workshop are reminded to submit a copy of the certificate of participation with their grading applications.

For red (junior) and 1st poom candidates, a copy of the certificate should be attached to their grading cards.  This is necessary for the examiners to give them special consideration, if required.

The 6th Daedo Taekwondo Open Championships 2018 will be held on 1 and 2 December 2018 at Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

2. VOLUNTEERS AND REFEREES
Volunteers and referees are to take note of the following reporting time.
(a) Volunteers (must be at least 13 years & above)
–  1st December 2018 (Saturday) – 8:00am (setting up of FOP)
–  2nd December 2018 (Sunday) – 8:00am

All local participating teams must provide at least one volunteer.


(b) Referees
–  1st December 2018 (Saturday) – 11:15am
–  2nd December 2018 (Sunday) – 8:00am
All local participating teams must provide at least two referees per every 60 competitors, and one referee for every additional competitors. 

3. POOMSAE EVENTS

Please understand that the given timings in the fixtures are only estimates and give at least 1 hour buffer. Please come early to avoid missing the call. if your competitor miss the call, he/she will be disqualified.

Please note that for the first round, the competitors will be performing two at a time and for finals, 1 at a time. The method of competition is still “cut-off”.

4. KYORUGI EVENTS

We will be adopting the following duration for this tournament:

FINAL ROUNDS: 3 rounds x 1 minute
ALL OTHER ROUNDS: 2 rounds x 1 minute

We seek your understanding be extremely alert for your competitor’s bout because if if your competitor miss the call, he/she will be disqualified.

5. KYORUGI WEIGH-IN

For this tournament, please note that we will allow kyorugi competitors to weigh-in on Saturday if they wish to do so.

Tentatively, this will be from 5pm onwards but please wait for the official announcement on that day.

Otherwise, for those who are fighting on Sunday afternoon, competitors can also weigh-in on Sunday morning as well after the tournament has started. Once again, an announcement will be made.

Otherwise, competitors can weigh-in when they report for their first bout as usual.

Please note that random weigh checks can be performed by the officials if there is any objections or disagreements with a particular competitor.

The random weigh checks shall be conducted with plus 5% tolerance of the competitor’s weight category. Underweight shall not be subjected to random weigh-in.
