Grade Clarifications for National Poomsae

0

In response to the many queries on whether the grades are based on January or April grading, the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) would like to clarify thatit shall be based on January grading season.  This means that the grades obtained in the first quarter grading.  For example, if it is a supplementary grading held in February 2016, it will be considered as January grading season.  If it is delayed to March 2016 for any reason, it is still considered as January grading season.

The April grading season or the second quarter grading starts in April 2016.  White 10 candidates taking their grading in the April grading season may also participate in the competition for the Grade 9 (White with yellow tip) category.

It is the responsibility of all club officials and coaches to ensure that the participants compete in the correct catergories.

The STF hopes that the above explanation will remove any doubts.

Head Kicks Allowed in National Championships

0

After much deliberation, the Management Committee, in its monthly meeting on 26 April 2016, has decided to introduce head kicks for cadets (12 to 14) and juniors (15 to 17) to provide them the opportunity to optimize their skill development.

The clearance for head kicks will also stand the players in good stead if they decide to compete overseas as all World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) recognized tournaments for the two divisions allow head kicks.  The WTF has also made head shots more rewarding.

In order to meet the needs of all members, there will be two categories for the two divisions – that is cadet and junior players can participate in either the head kick or non-kick category.  For the head kick category, players will be required to wear headgear with protective face shield.

If you require any clarifications on the introduction of head kicks for cadets and juniors, please send your questions to stkdf@mail.com.
