Sharing of Honors

The National Inter-School Taekwondo Championships 2010 concluded on 21 May with a poomsae competition for ‘A’ Division. The event staged at Bedok Sports Hall attracted 439 participants from 3 schools and 10 colleges.

The National Inter-School Taekwondo Championships 2010 concluded on 21 May with a poomsae competition for ‘A’ Division. The event staged at Bedok Sports Hall attracted 439 participants from 3 schools and 10 colleges.

The top honors for the championships were shared by Hwa Chong Junior College and Temasek Junior College.

Hwa Chong Institution, which had always been in contention for the top spot in past poomsae tournaments for Junior Colleges, finally clinched the male division title. It garnered a total score of 87 points. In the process, it denied Temasek Junior College a clean sweep it was used to.

For the division, Temasek had to be satisfied with the 2nd position with 67 points. Jurong Junior College with 42 points finished third followed by Victoria Junior College with 39 points.

Temasek Junior College proved that it had the best female contestants by dominating the female division with its outstanding performances and collecting 104 points – 56 points ahead of second placed Jurong Junior College. Hwa Chong Institution with 39 points came in third. Victoria Junior College with 38 points took the fourth spot.

For the event, two special prizes were awarded. Celestine Lee of Hwa Chong Junior College was voted the best coach while Jurong Junior College was presented the Most Improved Team trophy.

The championships ended with raucous school cheers by the various colleges and a thank-you announcement from the President of Singapore Taekwondo Federation.
