2018 SYOF Taekwondo Championships

7th SINGAPORE YOUTH OLYMPIC FESTIVAL TAEKWONDO  CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 7th Singapore Youth Olympic Festival (SYOF 2018) Taekwondo Championships will be held on 7 July and  

8 July 2018 at TOA PAYOH SPORTS HALL.

Documents pertaining to the competition are attached.

For this year’s competition, please note the following information.

  • The organizers will not accept incomplete submissions. Submissions after the closing date – that is, 14 June 2018 (Thu) by 1600hrs – will be rejected.
  • Participating teams must provide at least one referee per every 30 participants for the duration of the championships to qualify for participation. The referee need not be the same person.  For example, it is acceptable for a club to submit four referees, one for every competition day.  A club will be barred from future participation if its referee fails to fulfil his or her obligations without the approval of the Tournament Chairman. 
  • Each affiliate is allowed to field in more than one player per weight category per division for Kyorugi event. There is no limit to the number of participants a club can field for the Poomsae event.
  • The eligibility grade for the championships shall be based on or before 14 June 2018.
  • Weigh-in shall be conducted on the competition day. During Weigh-in contestants shall wear T-shirt & short. However, weigh-in may be conducted in the nude if the contest wishes to do so (Inside room). There will be only one weigh-in.  Players who are over weight or under weight shall be disqualified.  A weigh-in machine similar to the one used for the official weigh-in shall be provided for the players to check their weight before they are officially weighed.  No weight allowance will be given.
  • Male and female players are required to wear the following equipment upon entering the arena: head gear, trunk protector, forearm guard, shin guard groin guard, gloves and mouth piece.
  • Regarding the use of PSS, PSS equipment will be issue to the contestants
  • Doctor’s clearance will be required for those with pre-existing medical conditions
  • Introduce head kicks for Cadets (12 to 14) and Youths (15 to 17) to provide them the opportunity to optimize their skill development.There will be two categories for the two divisions – that is Cadet and Youth players can participate in either the non head kick or head kick category.  For the head kick category, players will be required to wear headgear with protective face shield.
  • Additional categories: Young (9, 10 and 11 years old). No head kicks for these categories.

STF New Premises Renovation

The progress for the alterations and additions to the STF new premises at 35 Joo Chiat Place  is right on target.  Barring any hitch, the operation of STF Secretariat will be at the new building come September 2018,

Kyorugi Referee Course Overall Results (February 2018)

The Kyorugi Referee Course overall results, after the retest held on 11 March 2018 are attached.

Participants who are successful in both the theory and practical tests will be awarded Class 3 (Provisional) Certification upon completion of at least 15 hours (at least 2 days of competition) of practical assessment at the National Inter-Schools Championships.  Any participants who have officiated more the 24 hours in the event will be awarded Class 3 certification.

Attachment must be completed within a year of the course.  Otherwise, they would be considered as being unsuccessful.  Those under attachment CANNOT represent their clubs.

Poomsae Referee Course Results (Apr 2018)

The results for the Poomsae Referee Course held on 31 March 2018 & 1 April 2018 are attached.

A retest will be conducted on Saturday 7 April 2018 at the STF National Training Centre for those who fail either the theory, practical or both components. Theory retest will begin at 10.00am followed by practical at 10.30am.

Those who are interested must register for the retest by Friday 6 April 2018. Candidates must call the Secretariat at 6345 1491 to register and payment may be made at the venue before the retest. The registration fee is $21.40 for one component and $32.10 for both components. On the spot registration for the retest is $32.10 per component.

Participants are advised to read their notes to prepare for the theory retest.

Those with ‘Pending’ practical results must attend the practical session at 11.00am. Otherwise they would be considered as being unsuccessful for the course.

Successful participants will be awarded Class 3 (Provisional) certification upon completion of at least 15 hours of practical assessment at the National Inter-School (at least 2 days of competition). Those who have officiated more than 24 hours in the school events will be awarded Class 3 certification.

Poomsae Coach Upgrading Course (4 April 2018) Results

The results of the Poomsae Coach Upgrading Course conducted on Wednesday 4 April 2018 at the STF National Training Centre are attached..

Successful participants must upgrade their coach pass by Monday 9 April 2018 to be able to accompany their students into the field of play for the National School Games Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.

Coaches who have received the Level 3 qualification MUST also upgrade their coach pass to reflect the correct and current level by Monday 9 April 2018.

Open Selection Trials for International Competitions

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation will be conducting open selection trials for the following competitions.

  • 2018 Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships

(18 to 24 July 2018, Jeju, Korea)

  • 2018 Kimunyong Cup International Taekwondo Championships

(11 to 15 August 2018, Seoul, Korea)

  • 2018 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships 

(15 to 18 November 2018, Taipei, Chinese Taipei)

All participants must be SINGAPORE CITIZENS and are STF black belt holdersThe WT Global Athlete Licence and Kukkiwon certification are mandatory for all players.

Please fill in the attached forms and submit them to the Secretariat by Monday 16 April 2018.  There is no limit to the number of players each affiliate can field.  We reserve the right not to accept late submission, incomplete forms or registration without the necessary supporting documents. 

Registered players for the trials are to report at the STF National Training Centre by 12.00pm.Kyorugi players shall be considered for the category based on their actual weight on the day of the weigh-in and not according to the weight submitted in the form as we do not want to disqualify any players.  No weight allowance will be given. 

Selected players will be required to fulfill the training requirements averaging 12 hours per week

The panel of selectors will comprise any 3 of the following senior technical members. 

–       Mr Steven Soh 
–       Mr RA Jeyaraman 
–       Mr Lee Thiam Poh 
–       Mr Tan Kok Heng
–       Mr Tan Cheng Hui
–       Mr Michael Ho
–       Mr Jimmy Tay

The player’s undertaking form is also attached.  The form must be signed by parents for players under the age of 21 years old.  Players will not be allowed to participate in the trials if they do not comply with the administrative requirements. Players with medical history must provide medical clearance from their doctor.

The trials would be open for observation by participants and the registered accompanying coaches (must be Level 2 qualified) only.   Please note that no photography and video recording will be allowed.

2018 National School Games Taekwondo Championships (Program & Draw Lists)

The 2018 National School Games Taekwondo Championships will be held at Toa Payoh Sports Hall as follows.

–  Primary (Wednesday to Friday, 11 to 13 April 2018)

–  B & C Divisions (Monday to Thursday 16 to 19 April 2018)

–  A Division (Friday 20 April 2018)

The program and fixtures are attached.

Teachers, team officials and coaches are advised to take note of the following for all 9 days of competition.

–  Reporting time for 1st batch of competitors (8.30am)

–  Briefing for teachers, team officials and coaches (8.40am)

All volunteers and referees are to report to Mr Andy Lee, Tournament Chairman, at 8.00am.

The STF wishes all participants and spectators an enjoyable and rewarding experience at the tournament.

2018 National International Schools (Program & Draw Lists)

The 2018 National International Schools Taekwondo Championships will be held on Tuesday 10 April 2018 at Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

The program and fixtures are attached.

Team officials and coaches are advised to take note of the following.

–  Reporting time for 1st batch of competitors (12.00pm)

–  Briefing for Team Managers & Coaches (12.30pm)

Volunteers are to report to Mr Andy Lee, Tournament Chairman, at 9.00am while all referees must sign in by 11.30am.

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation wishes all competitors an enjoyable experience.

NCAP (Level 1) Technical Course Retest Results

The NCAP (Level 1) retest results held on Saturday 6 January 2018 are attached.

Those participants who are successful are required to complete 3 months (twice a week) or 6 months (once a week) of practical coaching attachment. Trainee coaches can have their choice of schools or clubs approved by the STF for their attachment.

Form A must be returned to the STF at least two (2) weeks before they start their coaching attachment. Attachment without prior approval of STF will not be accepted.

Form B is for trainee coaches to record their attendance. It must be counter-signed by their respective club officials.

The two forms are available in the ‘Forms’ folder.

On receipt of the completed Form B, the STF will issue certificates to coaches only after having satisfied that the coaches have fulfilled their obligations. Practical attachment must be complete within 2 years of the announcement of the results. After that, the results will be considered null and void.

Successful participants may register for the Level 2 course.  They will only receive the Level 2 qualification if they have successfully completed the course and Level 1 practical attachment.  Registration will be open only to them until Thursday 5 April 2018.

Change of Venue for Poomsae Coach Upgrading Course (4 April 2018)

Due to overwhelming response, the venue for the Poomsae Coach Upgrading Course on Wednesday 4 April 2018 will be changed to the STF National Training Centre from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
